Creative earlier this year announced the launch of the ZiiPlatform. This platform was a culmination of Creative’s R&D focus and a subsidiary called ZiiLabs.

The intented benefits of the platform were to make nano-technologies and super quick media-rich processors a reality in a highly efficient development process.

So when at the Zii summit in China this week, there is on display a ZiiSound D5 iPod speaker dock, it got a lot of people very excited.

Unfortunately all of these people were very disapointed.

Although details on the ZiiSound D5 are scarce, it appears that Creative’s latest addition to its range of iPod speakers doesn’t have the Zii stemcell processor and other related goodies that all were hoping for.

This aside the ZiiSound D5 looks like a smart soundbar-type iPod speaker. There is no dock, instead a connector that will plug in to your iPhone or iPod and transfer the music to the speaker unit via bluetooth. For all non-Apple owners there is also a 3.5mm audio lead to connect your device up to, as well as your games console, DVD player or TV, whichever you prefer.

Rumours abound that pricing will be around $299 in the states. No news yet on pricing or launch dates for the UK, but I will update the post if I hear anything more.

If any of you hear or see anymore about the ZiiSound D5, please leave a comment and share it with us all. Thanks
