Altec Lansing IMT800 iPod Speaker
The Altec Lansing Mix IMT800 iPod Speaker is now available for sale in the US and is meant to put the Boom, Boom, Boom back in to iPod speakers.
Already named the BoomBox by many reviewers and tech sites, the IMT800 is styled very much to reflect its cassette playing cousins of the 1980s.
Altec have also decided to make it a portable device, so just in case you want to strut your stuff with the BoomBox on your shoulder, you can power the speaker using 8 batteries instead of using the standard AC input. Apparently the batteries will give up to 30 hours of playtime, but looking at the size of the unit you may want to look at some of the other speakers in the market for a something a little more dainty.
The other way that Altec Lansing are looking to differentiate the IMT800 is by a bucketload of juicy volume! Harking back to the classic BoobBoxes of the 1980s that could make a whole neighbourhood rock, this iPod speaker boasts a side firing 5.25″ sub-woofer, a 5.25″passive radiator, two 3″ midrange drivers, and two 1″ high-end horn-loaded speakers to give you a good portion of bass as well nice clarity through the rest of the range.
If a bass heavy sound isn’t your thing it’s not a problem as the speaker comes with a 7-band graphic equalizer (including 4 EQ presets) so you can get exactly the sound you want.
Altec Lansing’s new iPod speaker system is apparently compatible with both iPods and iPhones and also has 2 aux input in case you’d like to plug in some other goodies. Two aux cables are reportedly shipped with the unit, which is a nice touch, as well as a clip-on remote. The speaker system also has a built-in FM radio, so you’re not going to get bored of stuff to play.
So if you’re a retro junkie, that yearns for the need to bleed (from your ears) and has Attention Deficite Disorder this could be the iPod speaker system for you.
